Scott McCatherin

Scott joined Yankee Marina and Boatyard in 2008, relocated to Florida in 2010, and returned to Yankee in 2013. He grew up in Maine on Cousins Island in Yarmouth, attended local schools, and learned to sail through the junior sailing programs at several area yacht clubs by which he explored Casco Bay in a Turnabout sailboat. Scott’s passion for sailing continues and he has become an avid yacht racer. He was particularly active during the time he lived on Puget Sound where he raced extensively on J-35's and several custom 50' racing sailboats.
Scott’s maritime industry, travel, and other interests are diverse, as he has been to every US state, except Alaska and traveled to Europe, South America, and numerous Caribbean Islands. He has lived for extended periods in Colorado, Florida, Massachusetts, Washington, Wyoming, St. John USVI, Lyford Cay in the Bahamas, and Nonsuch Bay in Antigua.
Scott has worked in the marine industry in a variety of capacities, beginning as a launch operator at the Portland Yacht Club while attending the University of Maine and subsequently as a stern man on a lobster boat, as a rigger and equipment operator at the Hinckley Co, and as a systems and electrical technician for Lyman Morse Boatbuilding. He also spent several summers delivering yachts along the Maine coast and served as first mate on a 120' motor yacht where he traveled the eastern seaboard from Maine to the Caribbean and lived for a winter on St. John. He also delivered a Santa Cruz 50 from Kauai, HI to Seattle, and made numerous deliveries around British Columbia and Puget Sound. While in Seattle, he was employed as a rigger and travel lift operator for a boatyard on Puget Sound. Scott has brought his technical knowledge and ability to communicate easily to Yankee where he can be found doing anything from project management to rigging or electronics.
Scott lives in Yarmouth and has a daughter, Simonne, who is attending Savannah College of Art and Design in GA. In addition to sailing, Scott enjoys hiking, skiing, road biking, photography, and flying a model aircraft. Previously, he also was a wilderness EMT and professional ski patroller and was employed for a season by the Ambulance and Rescue Team at Sugarloaf Mountain. When not at Yankee in the summer, Scott can be found at the helm of an Eastbay 38 Express Cruiser or aboard his J/24, the Knife Edge, with his yellow lab, Seguin; in the winter he skis Sugarloaf almost every weekend.
