Ruan Pretorius

Ruan joined Yankee Marina and Boatyard in 2016.  He grew up in Newcastle Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa and graduated from North-West University in South Africa with a Bachelors Degree in Sports Science with a coaching emphasis.

Ruan began his marine career in South Africa as a deckhand on private yachts and, as he gained experience, served as a bosun to manage deck hands and as deck overseer to handle guest services on up to 235’ yachts.  He also completed the Professional Yacht Master Training program in Durbin, South Africa and has served as a master in the Mediterranean aboard both the 230’ motor yacht Hermitage and the 160’ motor yacht Mirgab VI. Over the years, when not at sea, he also has worked in construction, landscaping, and sales.

Ruan lives in Westbrook, with his wife, Micah, in a home that they are currently renovating. He is very active physically, working out in the gym regularly.  While living in South Africa, he competed on Junior Teams in the 100 meter dash, men’s field hockey, swimming, tennis, and golf.
